If your child borrows a book you consider inappropriate, please return it to us and talk to our Library Director or Librarian for their expertise in locating materials for your family. There are many tools that you can use to find materials for your family and steer clear of topics you'd prefer to avoid.

LIBRARY CARDS FOR MINORS

Library cards for minors have the following age ranges which we use to limit checkout of movies based on MPAA ratings and to manage age appropriate digital content collections.

Ages 8-10 Juvenile Card (G movies)

Ages 11-14 Teen Card (G/PG movies)

LIBRARY COLLECTIONS

Books and other materials in the library are grouped into the following collections based on intended audience age ranges, but we do not restrict collections by card─ only movies based on MPAA ratings.

  • Children’s Collection 0-7

  • Juvenile Collection 8-10

  • Young Adult Collection 15-17

  • Adult Collection 18+

We will be adding a Teen Collection for ages 11-14 in 2024 to better serve kids who find themselves too old for many of the books in the Juvenile Collection but not quite ready for many of the books in the Young Adult Collection.

RESTRICTED MATERIALS

Restricted materials are library materials that the library board of control has, through majority vote in an open meeting, identified as sexually explicit material pursuant to a request for reconsideration as per La. R.S. § 25:225. As of 10/23/2023 we have had no requests to reconsider materials.
