Helping our community grow, one seed at a time

About the WFPL Seed Library

The WFPL Seed Library is a collection of seeds well-suited to our climate and growing conditions that you can borrow to plant and grow in your garden. We hope to foster an environment of learning, to encourage our patrons to try new hobbies, and to enable food availability and sustainability in our community.

Our seed collection depends on donations and seasonality. You'll see different seeds available at different times, so check in frequently to see what's available.

Seeds shared by the WFPL Seed Library may have been grown by community members with love and care like our ancestors have done for thousands of years. Please know they may not meet state germination or labeling standards. We do not knowingly accept or share any seeds that are genetically modified.

The WFPL Seed Library was made possible through an LSU AgCenter Healthy Communities Grant and is maintained in partnership with the LSU AgCenter's West Feliciana Parish Extension Office.

How to Use the WFPL Seed Library

Getting seeds from the library

To use the seed library, you'll first need to fill out our seed library patron form and bring it to the circulation desk. Copies are available next to the seed library or printable here.

After that's done, you're free to pick seeds! You can take whichever varieties are available, but please limit to 3 envelopes of seeds per week.

Once you've chosen the seeds you want to take, make a note of it in our binder. We use this information to track which seed varieties are in higher demand and to replenish our stocks when possible.

Take your seeds home to your own garden, plant, and enjoy!

Donating seeds to the library

The WFPL Seed Library runs in part through donations of seeds from our patrons. While there is no obligation to return seeds after you harvest, we hope that you will consider sharing your seeds with us and with the community.

If you're ready to share seeds, bring them to the library and fill out a donation form. Copies are available next to the seed library or printable here.

Place each seed variety in a clearly labeled envelope or container with a donation slip, and make sure to tell us something about the crop (how it tasted, how it grew, if you used pesticides, etc.). This info helps us to make our community seed library better!
